While reading the NYT this morning I was appalled once again by an article concerning the latest White House policy designed to limit the control states have to expand Medicaid coverage. Just as they did a few months ago with the CHIP program, the Bush administration wants to limit the number of people on Medicaid in favor of supporting the free market insurance industry that is doing such a fabulous job covering Americans (yes, that is rich sarcasm dripping off this post).
Just a few minutes ago I stumbled upon this fascinating and shocking photo essay - Running the Numbers. Photographer Chris Jordan's pieces illustrate the numbers that reflect life in America. The fourth installment is a picture of 9 million building blocks representing the uninsured youth of our country . . .
That number is likely higher since Bush cut enrollment in CHIP programs. Now he's doing the same for the parents . . . Good we have unhealthy parents taking care of unhealthy kids. It's no wonder our children are expected to live shorter lives than their parents.
Note: Be sure to zoom in on these images to fully appreciate their statements.
